travel packages for the World Cup 2014

By

Quite a few early birds are making enquiries about packages to attend the Brazil World Cup 2014. Unfortunately, nobody is taking bookings for the soccer World Cup period yet. Not only that, quite a few months, if not years, will go by before you can make you arrangements for the football tournament.

Four years is an incredibly long period of time that leaves many questions unanswered:

  • which airlines will be flying to Brazil in 2014? Of the airlines currently flying to Brazil in 2010, which ones will still be active in 2014?
  • what will be the exchange rate of the Brazilian real against the dollar, the euro or the sterling pound?
  • which national teams will make it to the World Cup finals and where will they play their games?

I got in touch with two important players from the industry. Hotels Combined is the largest hotel search engine in the world and WHL Brazil has a wide network of hotels and pousadas in the country. The answer I got from both is the same: none of their partners are taking bookings yet for the World Cup. What’s more, it was suggested to me that a substantial number of hotels won’t release any special deals to third parties. Bad news for the tourist but makes perfect sense from a business point of view. A high influx of tourist is guaranteed during the World Cup period regardless of the hotel prices. So why give discounts during the period?

So they only booking you should be concerned about at the moment is that of the sofa at your friend’s house in Brazil!
